Traditional design rules are often overlooked nowadays, and we think that putting a little twist in custom upholstery is the perfect way to step outside of the traditional design box. Mixing textures and patterns when putting together a statement piece is quite the perfect touch to a space. We think that even mixing leather with fabric creates a sleek and forward thinking look, like the picture posted to the left. Come visit us at either location, we would love to help you pick out the perfect combination!

kravet buffalo check 1.jpg

It has been noted that Buffalo Plaid is making quite the comeback this season. What many people may not know is the history behind the Buffalo Plaid and how it received it's interesting name. We recently received information from Kravet that we would like to share! Below is a quick excerpt of what we have learned from our friends at Kravet.

Originally a Scottish product, Buffalo Plaid traces back to the 8th century and is ranked the oldest Tartan. This particular Tartan became a symbol of the MacGregor clan, a family known for being furious warriors. Because of this, the MacGregors were banished from Scotland by King James VI in 1603 and thus moved to Canada. Buffalo Plaid first made it's appearance in American fabric history in the late 1800s when the Scottish Big Jock McCluskey (MacGregor) from Canada settled in Connecticut. McCluskey did many things during his time in America all while living off of buffalo hunting. After the Battle against the Indians in the Battle of the Little Big Horn, McCluskey bartered for buffalo pelts with the Sioux and Cheyenne and, in return,...

This post to launch our new blog is all about Aerin Lauder, a designer who is recently making a great impact in the world of design. In everything Lauder does, she does it with an elegance that is uniquely her own. Her new fabric line for Lee Jofa, now available at Design Concepts, perfectly embodies a mixture of natural elements with modern graphic motifs. Lauder's legendary grandmother, Estée Lauder, is her inspiration for just about everything that she designs and you can see hints of Estee's taste in all of her AERIN products. This fabric for Lee Jofa, was awarded Best Fabrics at the Paris Deco Off show this year. Pictured with Lauder's textiles is a lamp from her collection with Visual Comfort, also available in our showroom. In everything that Lauder does, you can expect to see a balance of modern and feminine aspects.
